Not making the best of progress at the moment, I guess it's the time of the year or something...
First up is the next five cultists from the Dark Vengeance box
They're all painted in the same way as the chap in the background, I went for speed over technique as I just want to get them done and out of the way, so I can do some of the more interesting stuff.
Speaking of which, there's also a little more progress on the Hawk Lords character:
The gold is the usual Dryad Bark base, but with the new Auric Armour Gold mixed in for the highlights. The colour is a little more brown in colour, which I like a lot. That's it I'm afraid, not a lot to show for the week or so since my last post, but it's at least some progress. :-)
As always, comments and criticism welcome!

DeleteGreat work on the cultists, really like the tone of red that you used.
Not so keen on the Hawk Lord (he's a bit too clean, but he's also a WIP, so maybe you will do some battle damage later on), but your gold is very nice. I may have to steal that recipe.
Cheers,
Ludovic
Great painting! Love the purple on the Hawk Lord!
ReplyDeleteAgh! Chaos cultists with a cohesive colors scheme?! Bargle! Why, that's just heresy ;) Still love that purple on the hawk lord.
ReplyDeleteWow the Hawklord is coming along very nicely. The Cultists are great.
ReplyDeleteLove the cultists - wow!
ReplyDeleteThanks everyone!
ReplyDeleteGrimKlaw - I'm still undecided on whether to battle-damage him or not, it is tempting. Feel free to steal the gold, I'll write it out properly if you'd like me to?
Zab - I know, cohesive colours isn't exactly Chaotic, but I can't bring myself to do lots of different colours. They could have a uniform of sorts right?
Sorry for the late reply. Sure, if you have the time and the motivation, I'd love to know how you painted the gold. I'm struggling with the new GW metallics, especially the Auric Armour Gold and the Base metallic paints (very thick and I can't thin them down properly).
DeleteCheers,
Ludovic
Cool - it's the same method as for Malus Darkblade in the Ancible magazine, but I'll do a specific post on it in the near future. It's the Dryad Bark base coat, and then adding it to the gold for the first highlight which seems to do the trick.
DeleteI haven't been impressed with GWs new metal paints so far I have to say
If it saves you time and effort, I can always have a look in the Ancible magazine, it's not a problem. Unless you really want to do a post on your method, in which case I won't complain ;)
