A quick update (no pictures I'm afraid)

Not too much to tell you, I've been back in the UK for a couple of weeks, and managed to get some painting done...

Yeah, I know.

While in the US, I wandered  into this place: Meta-Games Unlimited, a quite wonderful gaming store, where I picked up the Khador battlegroup.

Yep, I'm going to give Warmachine a go.  Thanks to Tom at Longbeard, I know of a couple of clubs that play the game, so once I've got the things painted, I'm going to give it a whirl.

Painting wise, Lucius is going well, and I've finished the first stage of a "nostalgic" little side project I've been chipping away at.  Hopefully pictures soon.

Speaking of nostalgia - I noticed on the GW website that they've re-released some old-school Chaos Warriors - oh yes, they will be mine...

I also noticed here that the new Warhammer Forge book will be "Tamurkhan: The Throne of Chaos" and will allow people to field Chaos Warriors, Beastmen and Daemons in the same army.  Chaos as it should be!

Time to get back into this blogging lark properly again.

The Lair of the Breviks: Missouri Edition

Finally, I get around to posting for the first time in a month or two, and I'm in a different country to do it...

The Breviks are in Sedalia, Missouri visiting Mrs Brevik's family and friends for Christmas.  As well as experiencing my first ever white Christmas (seriously, I'm 34 and this is the first), eating so much I can barely move and watching hours of both types football from both sides of the Atlantic, I actually managed to purchase some miniatures.

A few days before Christmas we were in St Louis visiting some good friends of ours (thanks Julie and Glenn, we had a great time!), and they took us to see the Napoleonic exhibit at the history museum.  Inspired by the collection of artwork and the weapons on display, I decided to get myself something historical to paint.

So our friends called around and we found this place - CRM Hobbies, a fantastic little hobby store/model shop, staffed by some really friendly and helpful people.  I didn't go crazy, but I managed to pick up a couple of nice 54mm figures:

Granted the first isn't Napoleonic (Crimean instead), but it's a nice model still.  The wife was a little horrified when the owner of the store said that he shipped world-wide...

Just after Christmas we met up with some more friends including Big Al from The Hogs of War.  Al provided me with my next miniature that I'm going to paint as soon as I get back to Blighty (cheers mate, a superb choice!):

I've always considered getting this chap, but there's always been something else that I needed first, so now he's in my possession and he's going to be painted to fit in with the noise marines I did a while back.  I'm now thinking about a Slaanesh themed army with both Lucius and Fabius Bile in it...

I probably should finish the Eldar first, but what the hell.

My next post should be when I'm back in England, where I've actually got something to show for my efforts...

Oh motivation, where art thou?

Argh, just argh...

I have little progress to report.  My motivation has gone completely, I barely have the enthusiasm to pick up a paint brush. I've been working some long(ish) hours (for Britain anyway) and I don't have much energy at the weekends, let alone in the evenings.

When I'm at work I wish I was painting, but when I get home it feels like one of the last things I want to do.

So how do I get it back?  How do I "feel" like painting again?

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Busy, busy, busy...but not painting

Argh, not much painting done recently, doing some long days at work and not really feeling like painting when I get home.  Add this to getting a little burnt out on the Eldar, and I don't have much to report unfortunately.  To get my mojo back I'm painting a few different (and pretty old) things, which I'll hopefully have some pictures of soon.

Anyway, just so this isn't a boring picture-less post, here's an old project that I've made some progress on recently:

I'm pretty happy with the way these guys look, the greeny-blue is possibly a little light for Dark Elves, but it doesn't look too bad.  These are my favourite of all the Dark Elf models, I just love the look of them.

Gluing those damn swords on are a royal pain in the backside though...

Fire Dragons Completed

Far too long between posts again...

Not had much painting time recently, social life (yes I have one occasionally) took up some time, as did a new found addiction to the Blood Bowl computer game - great fun, although very frustrating, "The Black Death" Chaos team are starting to find their feet (and the ball, although picking it up seems to be something we still need to work on).

I've also just finished Dan Abnett's "Blood Pact", and thoroughly enjoyed it.  I'm also reading the Calpurnia trilogy, and now moving on to the Sabbat Worlds anthology.

In amongst all that, the Fire Dragons are finished!

Yep the picture wasn't exactly well posed, but never mind (the photographer should be shot to be honest...) - the guy hidden behind the Exarch is of the same pose as the guy far right, and the guy partly hidden was in the last post on this blog.  I'm particularly pleased with the Exarch - I spent a little extra time on the yellow of the helmet - the battle damage was the result of a couple of scratches on the miniature, which I didn't want to file out in case I damaged the rest of the model.

I'll post more pictures of the Dire Avenger when I've got some more of them finished.  I didn't want to paint his armour blue as I wanted him to fit in with the rest of the army, so I've gone for a dark brown.

• Helmet:  Khemri Brown, Dheneb Stone, Skull White
• Crest: Scorched Brown, Badab Black, Scab Red, Scab Red + Vomit Brown, Vomit Brown,

I actually had a bit of a disaster with him, the matt varnish spray left the model with a chalky finish that I couldn't get rid of, particularly in the crevices of the model.  I think I must have sprayed too much on somehow.  :(

He needed a bit of a repaint to fix him - very frustrating, but a useful learning exercise in the end.  Just have the 4 Dire Avengers to finish, and that's the combat patrol army done.  Although I've no idea if the store is holding the event still, so I may be bringing them up to 500 points and finding a gaming club to join...
